Report from the Second Conference of the Campaign for the Future of Higher Education

On behalf of the SDFA and CUCFA, President Ivan Evans attended the second Conference of the Campaign for the Future of Higher Education (CFHE) on 4-6 November 2011 at the U. Massachusetts at Boston.  Here’s his brief report on the meeting:

Approximately 80-100 representatives from 17 states attended the gathering. Almost all participants attended in their capacity as a representative of at least one local or regional organization. As a result, the conference had a very “brass tacks” feel and speakers concentrated on practical issues of mobilization, recruitment and organizational growth. I took the opportunity to circulate material about the SDFA and CUCFA and made a number of important contacts, all of whom were pleased that UC affiliates have an interest in the CFHE. Hopefully, the CFHE will develop into a national organization that fuses the interests of labour organizations and faculty associations in higher education.

Of particular importance are the “7 Principles” that capture the CFHE’s vision and goals.  I encourage you to read the “7 Principles” at http://futureofhighered.org/Principles.html
