SDFA will be hosting a town hall on Wednesday, August 19th at 9am to discuss campus community concerns about our medical records.
As part of campus COVID-19 preparations for fall quarter, the campus is requiring all employees to fill out a “Work and Health Management Registration” to create a medical record. The record is meant to keep medical information as part of the campus opening process. SDFA is hosting this town hall because our colleagues have expressed some concerns about workplace safety and privacy.

- Some key concerns with the program (source: Return to Learn FAQ)
- For employees who are also patients of UCSD Health, this system may give campus medical and occupational health units access to private medical histories unrelated to COVID-19. The history of stigmatized health conditions warns of the potential harms of employers having access to sexuality, smoking, or mental health records.
- Employees who wish to opt out of having an employee medical record lose access to COVID-19 testing, even if they are required to work on campus. COVID-19 testing for on-campus workers is not a “benefit” but an essential workplace safety measure.
- Employee screening data is stored in the EPIC patient health data infrastructure that hosts all patient data used for UCSD medical research.
- Campus data policies should be developed in consultation with affected groups, rather than launched in confusing and even panic-inducing announcements.
- Our panelists will provide information, discuss benefits and concerns, and you will have a chance to also raise your own.
Please feel free to invite your faculty and non-faculty colleagues and students.
