Mobility justice made a huge stride this week! On Wednesday May 11th, a coalition of local environmental justice activists, construction unions, educators, climate warriors and mobility equity advocates submitted 165,000 signatures to the registrar of voters to get the LetsGoSD measure on November’s ballot. It was a really energetic campaign, with dozens of members of grassroots organizations collecting signatures right up until the last hours. Now we have to raise awareness that the vote is coming, and get this thing passed. The measure, if adopted, would impose a half cent sales tax to pay for massive public transit expansions, plus other upgrades, repairs and improvements, which would cut regional greenhouse gas emissions by 20%, preserve wildlife habitat and expand mobility access. If you are interested in this progressive, practical, hopeful and important initiative, please attend our Town Hall on Transit next Wednesday May 18th to learn from the amazing union organizer Gretchen Newsom how it all came together.
