Vote on Fossil fuel memorial

Dear Colleagues,

We urge you to vote to affirm the Senate in sending the following to the UC Regents:

The University of California Academic Senate petitions the Regents for investments in UC’s infrastructure that will reduce on-campus fossil fuel combustion by at least 60% of current levels by 2030 and by 95% of current levels by 2035.
Please consider forwarding this message to  your colleagues on each of the UC campuses. Here are the links to vote, or you can check your email for “Notice of Senate Vote”:
Voting takes 10 seconds.

The UC emits more than a million tons of carbon dioxide every year, most of it from burning on-campus methane. Petitioning the institution to transition away from fossil fuel consumption may be one of the most impactful things we can do over the course of our lifetime in the face of our current climate crisis. If a majority of faculty vote yes on this memorial it will send a strong message to the Regents to listen to the UC’s own scientists about the threat the institution poses to a stable climate future.
