SDFA has many ways for members to get involved to make a tangible difference. Below are our current working groups, along with board members that you can contact to get involved. If you are interested in working on any of the below issues, please let us know! If there are other issues that you are concerned about, please also reach out.
Immigrant Support: This working group will focus on supporting immigrants in our community, including coworkers, students, and others who come to our campus. This includes visa issues, knowing our rights, and supporting those negatively impacted by immigration regimes.
Liaison: Abigail Andrews (alandrews@ucsd.edu)
Save our System: this working group is focused on SOS: saving our system, supporting our students, and saving our science. This includes persuading the UC administration from capitulating to the federal government’s demands, whether those be related to grant cancellations, ideologically-driven changes and restrictions, and the targeting of specific faculty, staff, and students via the release of PII
Liaisons: John Hildebrand (jahildebrand@ucsd.edu) and Varykina Thackray (vthackray@ucsd.edu)
Outreach and Organizing: To be effective, we need to grow. And we are! You can help in that process by reaching out to your departments, research groups, and networks. Department Liaisons stay aware of SDFA member communications and communicate relevant information to their department from the FA, and from their department to the FA Board or other working groups as needed. There can be more than one liaison per department or network. This is a role, and does not have regular meetings.
Liaison: Ameeth Vijay (avvijay@ucsd.edu)
Communications, crafting effective communication across various media for members, faculty, and allies.
Liaison: Lilly Irani (lirani@ucsd.edu)
