📝 Urge the UC Regents to Uphold Academic Freedom

When academic freedom is under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back!

The UC has been presented with a series of unlawful demands from the federal government, including the “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education” and the “Resolution Agreement Between the US and UCLA”. These demands include federal incursions into curricular content, research priorities, hiring decisions, and admissions standards.

On Oct 3, the UC Academic Council called on the UC Regents and President Milliken to “unequivocally reject governmental demands that compromise institutional autonomy and academic freedom” and CUCFA endorsed SDFA’s statement about academic freedom calling on UC leadership to reject these demands.

Now we need UC faculty, students and staff to submit public comments for the Nov 18–20 Regents meeting to amplify the pressure so that UC leadership does not capitulate! Call on the regents to reject governmental demands that compromise institutional autonomy and academic freedom!
