Save Our Science Action: Monday 8/18/2025 in Sacramento

Monday, August 18, 2025, approximately 20 people including faculty, staff, and students had a rally at the state Capitol in Sacramento calling for state funding to cover the federal research grants suspended by the Trump administration. Video of most of the speeches are available here.  We met with California Assembly members Sade Elhawary, Isaac Bryan, and Tina McKinnor and California State Senators Lola Cuevas Smallwood and Scott Wiener. State Senator Wiener said that he would reintroduce SB 829, which would create the California Institute for Scientific Research Fund, a long-term funding source that would allow California research to remain independent of the Trump administration’s agenda. We are also asking the state to supply emergency funding to cover the immediate shortfall.
