Statement in Support of striking colleagues at CSU Dominguez Hills and East Bay
The California Faculty Association, which represents over 20,000 tenure-track and contingent faculty at 23 California State University campuses, will stage one-day strikes at CSU East Bay and CSU Dominguez Hills on November 17.
The San Diego Faculty Association, a chapter of the AAUP and an affiliate of the Council of UC Faculty Associations, hereby records its support for CFA’s strike action and appeals to its members to show their support by joining the strikers at either of the two campuses.
The performance of the Chancellor of the CSU in the course of negotiations with the CFA has been disappointing. While he has been prepared to compromise over relatively minor issues, he has refused to bargain in good faith over the core issues that would uphold the quality of teaching at CSUs and honor bargaining agreements with the faculty. Instead of honoring contractually agreed salary increases, the Chancellor has launched an attack on the bargaining rights of CSU faculty.
Labor and faculty organizations recognize that the historic strike centers on issues that affect all employees in institutions of higher education and support for the strike has been pouring in from across the country. The SDFA is proud to stand together with our brothers and sisters in the CSU!
Adopted by the Board of the SDFA, 10 November 2011
